Call of Duty: Ghosts review - MMGN

MMGN: Call of Duty: Ghosts is playing it safe giving its millions of entrenched fans exactly what they want highly addictive multiplayer thats even more chaotic when played at a faster pace. The single-player campaign, however, is an uninspired disappointment and not the next-generation of Call of Duty we were promised. Aside from a few standout moments, its more of the same and nothing that couldnt have been done when Modern Warfare launched. Theres plenty to enjoy about Call of Duty: Ghosts' multiplayer if youre ready to go around again with more of the same, but if you were hoping for revolutionary innovation to kickstart the next-generation, you wont find it here.

Ernest Lin from PSU writes:
"Call of Duty: Ghosts is the start of a new series within the mega-hit first-person shooter franchise, and its the first Call of Duty to land on next-generation consoles. Developed by the studio that started it all, Infinity Ward, Ghosts is a spiritual successor to the Modern Warfare trilogy. Last years effort by Treyarch with Black Ops II pushed the series forward in a number of ways, raising the bar for what players expect. Despite a number of new modes and features, Ghosts falls flat in disrupting the FPS landscape like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare did, and it doesnt instill excitement back into the annual franchise."

The first few minutes of Call of Duty: Ghosts don't paint a terribly accurate portrait of what lies ahead. You barely have time to take stock of the idyllic Southern California setting before fire begins raining down from the heavens, destroying every car and home in sight as a shouty man commands you to follow him to safety. But whereas Infinity Ward's recent work on the Modern Warfare series was weighed down by bewildering plot twists and an affinity for restricting its most exciting moments to noninteractive set dressing, Ghosts tells a lean, straightforward story that throws you into plenty of spectacular situations, but with more breathing room to appreciate the action. Along with the outstanding new Extinction co-op mode and an abundance of clever refinements to competitive multiplayer, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a refreshing and thoroughly satisfying entry in the blockbuster shooter franchise.

Examiner: This week we sat down with Infinity Ward's own Tina Palacios, Senior Community Manager, and briefly chatted about Call of Duty: Ghosts. In our talk, we asked her about how Ghosts is differentiating itself from Modern Warfare and Black Ops, and to Palacios, it's actually really straight forward: being the underdog.

Speaking with Senior Community Manager, Tina Palacios this past week, she told Examiner all sorts of interesting things about Call of Duty: Ghosts. When we inquired about whether or not Ghosts would effectively become a sub-franchise, something that the studio will continue to return to like it did with Modern Warfare she confirmed our suspicions.

Chris West of SpawnFirst reviews Battlefield on the PC: "Despite my near-constant reference to Call of Duty, I really am only a fan of the first Modern Warfare plus it is difficult not to compare since that game set the standard for online multiplayer during its generation. Sadly, Battlefield 4 is a waste of money for newcomers and anyone who despised the previous game since it is essentially that game with a shiny new coat of paint, considering its current state. The game might be worth it if all the issues, especially the technical ones, are resolved with forthcoming patches. But in its current condition, especially on the PC, it's a sad state of affairs."
